On Stumbling: A Lecture by Lera Kononchuk

As part of Alek Petuk’s seminar The Door Opens From the Other Side, the researcher and cultural studies expert Lera Kononchuk will read a paper explaining her experience of stumbling on the political plane.

“I held my tongue, coughed, tripped, overcame the lump in my throat, was paralyzed, blocked, interrupted by a chuckle. We will talk about the political meaning of interrupting the correspondence between sign and meaning through artistic works” (Lera Konochuk).

Lera Kononchuk

is a curator, teacher, and researcher of contemporary culture and art. She is head of the mediation department at V-A-C Foundation and GES-2 House of Culture. She is a graduate student in the School of Art and Design at the Higher School of Economics, a mentor at Open Studios at Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art, and teaches at the BAZA Institute. Her work has been published in the journals Sinii divan and Moscow Art Magazine and on the sites aroundart.org, SPECTATE, K.R.A.P.I.V.A., syg.ma, and others.
